MAA Medical Missions
Milford Anesthesia Associates, Medical Missions
Ecuador, Peru, Philippines 2009
The men and women of Milford Anesthesia Associates remain committed not only to the health care needs of our local communities but also recognizes its role in doing its part in global health care delivery. This past year three of our physicians spent time in delivering that care in Peru, Ecuador, and Manila.
Dr Richard Given, our Chief of Anesthesia at the Eastern Connecticut Health Care Network (ECHN), spent two weeks in Ecuador with a fifty member medical mission group. Dr Given and his teammates cared for both general surgical and Obstetrical patients. Upon his return he stated, "It was truly a rewarding experience which I will continue to do yearly."
Dr Grace Moy, a staff anesthesiologist with our Holy Family Hospital Anesthesia Department in Methuen Mass, spent two weeks in Peru. She and her teammates provided ophthalmic surgery and anesthesia care through Vision Health Organization for this region's most indigent.
Dr. Thomas Verdone, MAA's Managing Partner, and Dr. Gino Ang, staff anesthesiologist, who also served as the "Mission Coordinator", spent two weeks in the Philippines with a 60 member medical and surgical group this past February. This mission was particularly complicated in that it provided medical, surgical and dental care at several separate sites simultaneously. We a very grateful to have physicians like Dr. Ang in our practice who can take the time to both coordinate and then participate in activities such as this. Dr. Ang is currently back in the Philippines laying the ground work for next year's mission.
The common theme we hear from all returning physicians is the obvious personal satisfaction. In addition, they all come home with the realization that a divergent group of individuals from different locations and past experiences can come together for a common goal and purpose. Despite the extreme conditions and limited resources teamwork and a common goal lead to excellent medical/ surgical care and the improvement of the human condition.
MAA and its physicians will continue to export its skilled work force towards this end and in return we will continue to import these attitudes and spirits.
